The business, which closed amidst the pandemic, won’t reopen. “I reinvented The Market every five years for 37 years, and I just wasn’t ready to reinvent myself again.”
Turnover Darling’s name is inspired by a 1963 romantic comedy. Cliff Trubowitz once pitched the concept to a NBC reality show.
“When we re-opened Racines, there wasn’t the Broadway corridor,” Lee Goodfriend said. “There wasn’t RiNo. LoDo was mostly bars. The competition has become enormous.”
The Denver-based brunch chain is conserving cash, said CEO David Birzon: It’s laid off 1,800 workers, closed 15 restaurants temporarily and told landlords it won’t pay rent for three months.
