“When I went home, I didn’t feel like I was at home anymore,” Hello Darling owner Daniel Masters said of Memphis after visiting Denver. So he moved here.
Botellón Spanish Tapas & Wine previously operated in City Park West but was forced to leave when the lease for that space was up.
“The demographic in Denver is really similar to Seattle,” said Reckless Noodles owner Bryce Sweeny of expanding to the Mile High City.
The 25-seat Restaurant Olivia at 290 S. Downing St. will be able to double its seating capacity at night with space at 284 S. Downing St.
The three-story establishment will be called BurnDown, a reference to a 1978 fire that destroyed much of the building’s interior.
“I was worried that someone was going to buy it, and it wasn’t going to be for the community anymore,” said Nora Baldwin. “So, I jumped on the purchase.”
“At some point it’s like pushing a boulder up a hill,” Asbury Provisions co-owner Chris Topham said of staffing and pandemic challenges.
The buyer is a Denver developer with family ties to the restaurant’s leadership. The seller paid $13.8 million for it in 2015.
“If the trucks are making good food and money, we’re happy,” said Blake Sanchez, co-owner of Run Westy Run.
