“I think we have before us tonight an example of extraordinary,” one council member said.
Mike Mathieson now wants to build income-restricted units on the property. An ex-mayor is among those calling for preservation.
“The customer is not somebody who comes to buy beer, the customer is the dog. It’s a private club for the dog,” said co-owner Layton Judd.
Shinesty’s garish products, previously only available through its website, are now rolling out in two retail chains.
“This is not just another mall renovation. You need to un-mall. You need to de-mall this site,” said a McWhinney employee.
Fourteen companies and 32 lawyers are now involved in the complex case, which may require a five-week trial to sort out.
“It started as a real estate deal, and this is my baby now,” said co-owner Pete Foster, who is also a broker.
“Nothing in real estate is a sure thing. But Cherry Creek is something special to both of us,” said Dave Bracht, who has been friends with Frank Penn since the 1990s.
The property is within a largely industrial area, although Denver Water’s headquarters is within a couple blocks.
