It was a weird year to be a Deadhead, owner Jay Bianchi said, but “a different kind of weird.”
“The pandemic has served as a sort of coming out party,” said a co-founder of the Denver-based startup, which plans to expand nationwide.
Located on a 0.74-acre lot in the 3600 block of Chestnut Place, the distillery opened in 2018.
Locust Cider & Brewing Co. expanded to Colorado with a production facility and taproom in Boulder last year.
“The neighborhood is already knocking on the door and getting excited for us to come here, which makes me want to work harder,” co-owner Brett McNamee-Hooper said.
Zanzibar Billiards, which was shut down by the city in August, has refused to vacate its space, according to its landlord.
The pandemic didn’t kill an entrepreneur’s dream to make and sell beer, but his wife said she’ll kill him if he tries to distribute.
“We’re waiting for the landlord’s contractors to finalize the construction, but we’re ready to move ahead,” founder Mario Zelaya said.
