After expanding into Colorado earlier this year, Sweetgreen has chosen the market for the company’s first-ever drive-thru location.
The hip salad chain announced this week that it plans to debut the new store model this winter at 9215 S. Broadway in Highlands Ranch.
California-based Sweetgreen’s new model will feature dedicated parking spots to order and wait for your meal — similar to Sonic — with solar panels overhead. There will also be a drive-thru lane, where customers can order food on a kiosk or pick up an online order.
“For years we’ve been working on our digital experience, with more than 50 percent of our orders coming through via our app and website even pre-COVID,” the company said. “The drive-in format is that next step for us into using tech to meet our guests where they are. Before the pandemic hit, the idea of evolving our physical formats was already in motion as we’re always continuing to innovate our physical experiences, not just our digital platforms.”
Sweetgreen has more than 100 locations across the U.S., and said it is expanding away from the coasts into more car-dependent cities.
BusinessDen broke the news last year that Sweetgreen was expanding into Colorado. The company opened locations in Cherry Creek and by Union Station in June. A Boulder location opened earlier this month.
Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 by three recent graduates of Georgetown University. Salad options at Sweetgreen include “Guacamole Greens” and “Kale Caesar,” according to its online menu. The company also offers bowls, and earlier this year introduced plates, with options including “Herby Fish + Rice” and “Tofu Steak and Sweet Potatoes.”
