An Idaho real estate firm has closed its second Denver retail buy of the year.
Barrett, LLC bought the recently finished Tennyson Shops retail strip near 43rd Avenue and Tennyson Street for $4.4 million. The deal closed Monday, about two months after Barrett bought the Breck on Blake restaurant building near Coors Field.
Barrett’s Tennyson Street building is the former home of the Ward/Carter Dance Studio. The 7,300-square-foot building was remodeled in the last year or so and now houses tenants Atomic Cowboy, Biju’s Little Curry Shop and Tennyson Street Family Dental.
Denver-based developers Kentro Group sold the real estate to Barrett. Kentro bought it for $1.15 million in October 2013, city records show. Kentro principal George Balafas said the company completely renovated the building.
“We redid everything,” he said. “The only thing we kept was the exterior brick.”
Atomic Cowboy, which includes concepts Denver Biscuit Co. and Fat Sully’s Pizza, opened in the space last summer. Biju’s followed towards the end of 2015.
SVN Denver Commercial’s John Sheflin and Mike Carnes handled the sale, Balafas said.
A message left for Barrett, LLC on Wednesday was not returned by press time. The company made another Denver retail play in January by paying $3.95 million for the Breckenridge Brewery restaurant near Blake and 22nd streets in LoDo.
