There’ll be no excuse next year for members at The Ranch Country Club who still have the yips.
The Westminster golf course announced Friday that it will spend $5.5 million to upgrade its clubhouse, swimming pool and golf course. And that includes an 8,000-square-foot practice putting green and a 3,500-square-foot chipping green.
“You have to stay modern or relevant in the golf business,” said Lin Rouse, a controller with a 24-year career at the club who’s worked on the expansion project since last year. “The clubhouse hasn’t been updated probably in 10 years, so it was time for a major overhaul.”

Interior demolition will start this week. The new facility will span 32,000 square feet and feature westward-facing dining rooms, new restrooms and locker rooms and event space for up to 200 attendees, said General Manager Mark Condon.
Condon said the pool will become more family-friendly with some new toys, and the club will add a new playground and day care.
Golden-based architect Studio DH drafted the renovations, and Waner Construction is the project’s contractor.
The improvements were spurred by the club’s large demographic of families, Condon said. The club had about 300 members – but could accommodate up to 400, Condon said. Initiation fees will rise when the new clubhouse opens from $10,000 to $15,000.
The Ranch Country Club is financing the renovation in part through a loan from Guaranty Bank and Trust.
Condon said he moved over to Ranch Country Club just last month. He most recently oversaw Red Rocks Country Club’s $4 million expansion that wrapped up earlier this year.
He has also worked at The Club at Rolling Hills and Lakewood Country Club.
“Various club managers have various skill sets. It seems like I’ve become a manager who has a skill set that involves growing a club or improving a property,” Condon said. “The challenge and excitement of building a new clubhouse and getting a membership to capacity have always been exciting for me.”
The 134-acre Ranch Country Club was founded in 1974 and became member-owned in 1991.
It’s the third local club to announce a recent clubhouse renovation. In addition to Red Rocks Country Club, Columbine Country Club also announced a plan to replace its clubhouse.
