The founder of Centennial-based Outward Hound, which sells toys, gear and feeders for dogs, is hunting down a buyer for his $5.5 million Castle Rock mansion.
Kyle and Jennifer Hansen listed their 15,212-square-foot home at 18 Borealis Way on Aug. 27. The couple renovated and expanded the five-bed, eight-bath home in 2016, keeping some of the original architectural finishes from the 1990 build.
There’s no shortage of activities to do on the property’s 1.4 acres. The house comes with a 2,000-square-foot safe room with wine storage, a game room, a workout room, an indoor and outdoor pool, an indoor basketball court and a sauna.
“My favorite feature is the livability of the house,” said listing agent Stacie Chadwick. “It’s a home that’s made for entertaining and having fun.”
Hansen launched the pet product brand Kyjen in 1998 because he and Jennifer felt like their dog’s toys weren’t stimulating enough. He later rebranded it to Outward Hound in 2013 after partnering with an outside investor. It’s grown rapidly and acquired a number of brands, including Charming Pets, Wholesome Pride treats and Planet Dog, according to a press release.
Address: 18 Borealis Way, Castle Rock
Listing price: $5.5 million
Stats: The newly expanded home features 8,442 square feet of space on the main level, plus a massive 5,994-square-foot finished basement.
The finer things: Views of Pikes Peak and Devils Head mountains can be seen from the home’s floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. Six atrium skylights flood the property with sunlight throughout the day.
The main level features a huge master bedroom and bathroom, a chef’s kitchen with top of the line appliances, a living room, bar, dining room and more. Glass doors that lead you to the sprawling backyard deck give you an indoor-outdoor living experience, while overlooking the large fenced in yard with fire pits, an outdoor pool and hot tub.
There are two heated garages, which can fit up to nine vehicles.
Seller: Kyle and Jennifer Hansen purchased the property in 2013 for $1.9 million, according to public records.
Listing agent: Stacie Chadwick with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty
