Denver-based Chef Connect launched in November as a way to connect local chefs with customers. Four months later, the startup is pivoting in light of Gov. Jared Polis ordering all restaurants to cease dine-in services.
On Wednesday, Chef Connect will begin offering meals for pickup or delivery. A pickup location still is being determined, but customers can order roasted chicken, pork chops, shrimp alfredo, vegetable lasagna and desserts from the company’s website. Chef Connect also is hiring industry workers to prepare and deliver the food.
“Our ultimate goal is for every meal we sell at full price, we will donate a meal to industry workers or medical staff or first responders,” founder and owner Leo De Aguiar said. “ … We’re just trying to help as many people as we possibly can at the given moment.”
Prior to the pivot, Chef Connect customers would select a chef to cook a meal at their home. That program, which was offered through Chef Connect’s app, was suspended last week.
Polis announcements: Gov. Jared Polis announced Friday restaurants can now deliver alcohol with takeout or delivery orders. Polis also suspended elective medical procedures and moved the state income filing deadline from April 15 to July 15 in line with the federal deadline. On Thursday, Polis announced hair and nail salons, tattoo shops, spas and massage parlors must close until April 30.
Hotel: The Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs will close Saturday for 70 days, according to the Gazette.
Distilleries: Ballmer Peak Distillery is making free hand sanitizer from “rum and whiskey waste alcohol,” according to the company. Spirit Hound Distillers and J&L Distilling also are making hand sanitizer, according to The Denver Post.
Grocery stores: Several grocery stores, including King Soopers, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target and Safeway, have begun offering senior-only shopping on select days and times.
Federal loans: Low-interest federal disaster loans are now available for small businesses in Colorado. The Small Business Administration disaster loans are available to businesses “suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the coronavirus,” and can be used for payroll or other bills that can’t be paid.
