Sears is closing its Cherry Creek store after 60 years in business and liquidating the merchandise starting Jan. 23.
The 1st Avenue Sears will close for good in March, the company said last Friday, as the retailer continues to shutter hundreds of stores nationwide.
Sears in Cherry Creek has 66 employees between its retail store and auto center, a company spokesperson said in an email.
The store and its adjacent auto center will leave a 152,000-square-foot hole at Clayton Lane, the retail complex along First Avenue that also hosts Cherry Creek’s Whole Foods and Crate & Barrel stores.
Connecticut-based AmCap Inc. owns Clayton Lane, and messages requesting comment on its impending vacancy went unreturned by press time.
Sears Holdings Corp., the parent company for both Sears and Kmart, said it had closed or would close about 235 underperforming stores in an earnings report released in December.
