Yes, there was blood.
And scowling. And an ejected mouth guard. And an announcer, saying things such as, “The louder you cheer, the harder they fight.”
The audience followed instructions.
Four Denver real estate professionals became “white collar brawlers,” as NAIOP Colorado dubbed them, Thursday evening when they took to the boxing ring as part of the organization’s annual “Fight Night.” It was held at the Exdo Events Center.
The event raises money for the Denver Active 20-30 Children’s Foundation.
In the first white collar bout, Bob Demaree, an industrial broker with CBRE, scored a win over Nathan Levy, director of the Denver office of Diamond Ventures, an Arizona-based real estate firm.
The second bout had Ryan Good, executive vice president and partner with Etkin Johnson Real Estate Partners, take on Steve Scrivener, a broker who recently joined Cushman & Wakefield.
“These guys are voluntarily putting their lives on the line, for your entertainment,” the announcer said.
By the third and final two-minute round, Scrivener was bleeding from the nose and beads of sweat were flung from the men’s upper bodies as they exchanged blows.
“You better cheer for your guy,” said the announcer, trying to generate excitement. “Dab, dab, dab, right hand, right hand. … This is do or die.”
In the end, the bout came down to a split decision. One judge gave the nod to Scrivener, but the other two put Good on top, giving him the win and a belt, and prompting cheers from his fan base, which seemed to be the evening’s largest.
“This is by far the most amazing fight we have ever had at a fight night,” an organizer said of the Good-Scrivener bout.
