The women of Cheesman Park now get to try a Wash Park workout.
Hot Mamas, a women’s gym that for 12 years was at 701 S. Logan St., is moving to 2260 E. Colfax Ave.
“The location I was in definitely wasn’t hitting all the demographics I wanted,” said owner Teddi Bryant. “I really want to reach out to younger and older people.”
Plus, the building she has leased in Wash Park for her 2,000-square-foot studio is getting demolished to make room for condos, Bryant said. In March, The Warren & Edna Clark Trust sold the building to 701 S Logan LLC for $1.85 million, according to property records.
“I had about seven more years on my lease,” she said. “I was ready to move, but I was going to wait my lease out.”
Bryant is investing $250,000 in the buildout of her new 2,000-square-foot studio and hired AW Architects to design the new studio.
“It’s going to be super, super swanky, nothing like anything anyone has ever seen,” Bryant said, adding, “The Great Gatsby meets Tupac.”
In addition to offering a wide spread of fitness classes, Hot Mamas also will be opening a retail store selling fitness apparel, skincare products and other items inspired by Bryant’s international fitness travels.
Bryant, 52, is a veteran of the fitness industry. While living in New York City, she became one of the original trainers at Equinox Fitness. She opened her first personal training studio in LoDo 14 years ago before moving it to Wash Park and transitioning to group fitness classes for women.
“All you have to do is come into the studio and see these bodies,” Bryant said. “They all look lean and strong and feminine.”
Bryant employs 12 teachers that run classes such as “Skinny Jeans,” a lower-body workout, and “Femme Fatale,” a full-body strength-building class.
“It’s hard to find quality instructors,” Bryant said. “You get these teachers who have been through a weekend certification. … Now they’re in charge of people’s bodies.”
In Bryant’s new location, other neighborhood studios include Kindness Yoga, Endorphin and the new Carla Madison Recreation Center. Monthly unlimited memberships at Hot Mamas cost $139, and the new studio also will provide child care down the street at a church.
“I think (Denver) is getting very saturated with studios,” Bryant said. “There’s really nothing that’s super diverse that really hits everything you need in one place. That’s what I really try to achieve.”
