New ski conglomerate Alterra has released the price of its ski passes for next season. And it’s undercutting the ubiquitous Epic Local pass for unlimited skiing on the Front Range (see chart below).
One difference between passes: Vail’s full-price Epic Pass provides unlimited access to its namesake mountain. Not so at Aspen, which was introduced as a “partner” when the KSL/Intrawest/Crown deal was announced in July. The Crown family owns Aspen. Ikon Pass holders get seven days at the tony resort on the full-price Ikon Pass.
Aspen sells a season pass for around $2,000 and will again next year, according to the sales office. Steamboat locals, though, will now pay $900 for unlimited skiing. The Steamboat pass this year costs $1,500.
