Watch out, Vail Resorts: There’s a new kid on the block.
The resort conglomerate joint venture of KSL Capital Partners and Henry Crown and Co. has announced the new company will be called Alterra Mountain Co., according to a news release.
The name of the company, located at 1621 18th St. in Denver, comes from the fusion of Latin words meaning “high” and “earth.”
In 2017, KSL and Henry Crown purchased Intrawest, Mammoth Resorts and Deer Valley Resort, forming the new entity that controls 12 resorts, including Colorado’s Winter Park and Steamboat. Henry Crown also owns Aspen Skiing Co.
On its new website, Alterra is hiring for 14 positions in its Denver office. It also plans to announce a new pass that is expected to rival Vail’s Epic Pass.
Alterra’s California resorts are Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. It also owns Utah’s Deer Valley. Farther east, it owns Vermont’s Stratton and West Virginia’s Snowshoe.
Alterra’s Canadian properties include Tremblant in Quebec, Ontario’s Blue Mountain and British Columbia’s CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures.
