The hipster offspring of Crate & Barrel is coming to Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood, less than a half-mile from its parent chain.
CB2 expects to open this summer at 210 St. Paul St., according to a spokeswoman for the chain.
That’s the address of one of the two buildings that will make up St. Paul Collection, the luxury apartments being developed by Denver-based BMC Investments.
BMC CEO Matt Joblon said CB2 will occupy all the commercial space at 210 St. Paul – about 11,000 square feet on the ground floor.
Illinois-based Crate & Barrel, founded in 1962, opened the first CB2 store in Chicago in 2000.
Both brands sell furniture and other home goods, but CB2’s offerings tend to be more modern in style and less expensive.
The Denver store will be CB2’s 16th location, and will give the brand its first presence in the Mountain West. The closest stores are in Minneapolis and Austin, Texas.
The Cherry Creek CB2 will be about four blocks away from the Crate & Barrel store at 101 Clayton Lane.
“There’s a lot of great furniture stores in Cherry Creek,” Joblon said, making it the natural place for CB2 to locate.
“I think this is kind of the furniture mecca of metro Denver,” he said.
Joblon said he hopes to open the store at the same time as the apartments. The upper floors of the eight-story building will include 81 one-, two- and three-bedroom units, priced between $2,500 and $15,000 per month, he said.
The apartments are about 10 percent preleased, Joblon said. A leasing center for the building is open at 240 St. Paul St.
The second St. Paul Collection building is under construction at 255 St. Paul St.
