A California tech firm passed on LoDo and RiNo in favor of a cheaper part of downtown.
San Francisco-based OpenTable, which handles booking and reservations for restaurants, leased 16,000 square feet on the 29th floor of 1700 Lincoln St., according to sources familiar with the deal.
OpenTable employs 100 people in Denver, according to Built In Colorado, and operates out of 1899 Wynkoop St. near Union Station.
Founded in 1998, OpenTable allows foodies worldwide to find restaurants and book reservations for free, including nearly 4,700 restaurants in Denver, according to its website. The service also posts restaurant reviews, suggests new places to eat and offers point-based rewards for booking reservations through the site or mobile app.
The Denver Post reported in 2015 that six Denver restaurants, including Old Major in LoHi, opted out of using OpenTable for reservation services because OpenTable’s prices were too high.
The app company, which declined to comment, was acquired by The Priceline Group in 2014.
OpenTable has U.S. offices in San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and New York. Internationally, the publicly traded company has offices in Australia, India, Germany, Mexico, Japan and the U.K.
Rent at 1700 Lincoln St. is advertised at $22 to $27 per square foot per year on LoopNet, which pegs the vacancy rate in the landmark property at about 20 percent.
