A fixture of the University Hills shopping center will be rolling out its last pizzas at the end of the month.

Beau Jo’s is closing at 2710 S. Colorado Blvd. Staff will fire up the ovens for the last time July 30. The pizzeria has been there since 1987.

VP of marketing Pam Friedentag said the pizza chain, which launched in Idaho Springs more than 40 years ago, is in the market for a new location in that part of town. She said the store was not given the option to renew the lease, adding that the landlord plans to bulldoze the building. BusinessDen was not able to verify plans for the building by press time.

Beau Jo’s has seven locations in Colorado, including the one at University Hills. The pizzeria is opening a new outpost in Longmont, which she projected will open this October at 2033 Ken Pratt Blvd. It paid $2.6 million for the location.

The first location opened in Idaho Springs more than 40 years ago, offering “Colorado Style Pizza” which uses locally sourced honey in the dough instead of sugar. The dough on the pizza is braided, allowing Beau Jo’s to add more toppings and cheese.
