The first new golf course built in Colorado this decade is starting to sprout.
Six holes are green and growing at TPC Colorado, a golf course underway in Berthoud, and the remaining dozen are set to be seeded by August. Private members will get the first swing at the course on Heron Lakes next spring before a full opening in June 2018.
“We are going to operate as a high end, semi-private club, but will have public access. Public access will decrease as we increase membership,” said Larry Collins, general manager of TPC Colorado.
The course will be the only golf green in the state that is part of the Tournament Players Club, the chain of public and private golf courses operated by the PGA Tour. The nearest TPC course is in Arizona.
The $15 million course started moving dirt last spring, funded by its three owners: Jon Turner – owner of Highland Meadows golf course in Windsor – Chris Frye and Jim Birdsall. The course architect is Arthur Schaupeter.
Amenities include a 40,000-square-foot clubhouse with a ballroom designed for use as a wedding venue.
Public play at TPC Colorado will range from $130 to $150 per round. A private membership will cost $25,000 upfront, plus monthly dues of $325. There are also separate pay tiers for players under 40.
The course on Heron Lakes is already lining up its first PGA-affiliated competition: it has an agreement to host the minor league Web.com Tour for five years starting in 2019.
