An art gallery is shuffling a little father south on Broadway.

Art supply store and gallery LowBrow has leased a new 850-square-foot showroom at 38 Broadway and will move four blocks from its current space at the beginning of May.

“The location a couple blocks farther south is right in the middle of some heavier foot traffic and more businesses,” said LowBrow co-owner Tymla Welch. “We’ll be a little bit larger and get a lot more storage space.”

The 3-year-old shop currently runs out of 830 square feet, but Welch said the lease for that space is expiring. LowBrow will close for the last few days of April to move over to its new store.

38 Broadway was the former location of gift shop Nirvana Collection, which left the street in January in the face of rising rents on the popular retail strip. LowBrow’s new shop includes an 850-square-foot street-level showroom and another 850 square feet of below-ground storage.

Welch said LowBrow is paying $25 per square foot for the main retail space. The gallery’s lease runs for five years. LowBrow’s current space at 250 Broadway is currently listed for lease at $25 per square foot.
