The city of Arvada is taking a swing at a $6.9 million renovation project on one of its golf courses.
West Woods Golf Course in Arvada finalized plans to spruce up its 23-year-old facilities at the end of March. It will add 10,000 square feet to its clubhouse and refurbish parts of its 27-hole golf course.
“We’ll be able to seat more people in the restaurant. We’ll be able to host larger tournaments,” said Gordon Reusink, who heads the city’s parks department. “We’re really making an investment for the next generation.”
Reusink said the city signed agreements with its contractors on March 20, and expects construction to finish by December.
Interior changes include expanding the kitchen and dining room, and adding a porch to seat 120 spectators. There also will be more shelf space for the golf shop and new offices for employees. The restaurant will close during construction and the golf shop will move to a temporary location.

Reusink said changes to the course include replacing the irrigation system, adding more tees on the driving range, moving the putting green and setting up a practice area. The course at 6655 Quaker St. will remain open during construction.
“We had a series of meetings where we asked people what they wanted in a new clubhouse,” Reusink said. “Coloradans like to be outdoors during nice weather. The whole design was premised on getting people outdoors.”
The clubhouse is ready, however, to accommodate the rare rainy day, adding a golf simulator where visitors can practice their stroke indoors.
West Woods, built in 1994, hosts public tournaments, golf leagues and daily golfers. While Reusink said the course has sold about 300 annual memberships for $1,000 each, the daily $36 golf fee is the course’s main source of revenue.
The city of Arvada is using West Woods revenue to fund part of the renovation, Reusink said.
In addition to West Woods, Arvada also owns Lake Arbor Golf Club.
