Real estate is one business Denver’s Better Business Bureau wants out of.

The Better Business Bureau of Denver/Boulder is selling its office at 1020 Cherokee St. to move into a larger 10,500-square-foot space the organization has leased at 3801 Florida Ave.

“We just need more space, essentially,” Better Business Bureau President Kim States said. “And parking is a bit of a challenge for us here.”

The Better Business Bureau will move its lone Denver office to Florida Avenue in June. States said the organization liked the Florida Avenue building for its high visibility and central location right off Colorado Boulevard.

Leasing instead of buying a new building will give the organization more flexibility should it need to expand again. And States said the arrangement would let the bureau focus more on its business and less on taking care of its own building.

The Better Business Bureau has 52 total employees and one office in Denver. The company’s building at 1020 Cherokee St. is about 7,500 square feet. That property, which the bureau bought for $1.25 million in 2004, is on the market and currently under contract to new buyer.
