The Term Sheet: Startup funding roundup for December

Startups across the state raised $42 million in December, led by a Foundry Group-backed software company in Boulder and a medical technology business in Littleton.

Boulder startups out-raised their counterparts in Denver by $6 million, thanks largely to VictorOps, a software company that landed a $15 million Series B.

For this monthly survey, BusinessDen tallies SEC Form Ds filed in Colorado over the previous month. BusinessDen defines a startup as any business founded in the past decade, with the exception of publicly traded companies, real estate projects and investment funds.

Across the state, businesses raised $831 million in Form D offerings in December.
