Colorado Athletic Club is slimming down again.
The Wellbridge Co., the parent company of the fitness chain, announced it is shuttering a Boulder fitness center — the third closure in two months.
The 40,000 square-foot location at 1821 30th St. will close Oct. 31. The fitness center opened in Boulder’s Twenty Ninth Street mall in 2009. A spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.
“Boulder is considered to be one of the fittest cities in America, and the Club and its loyal teammates have been honored to have supported that lifestyle for more than a decade,” a company statement on its website said.
Members at the club can transfer their membership to another location, such as the Flatirons center, which is about two miles away. According to the statement, Wellbridge hopes to transfer some of its employees to other locations as well.
Earlier this summer, Colorado Athletic Club closed its Union Station Denver location at 1601 Wewatta St. and in the Denver Tech Center at 374 Inverness Pkwy. Wellbridge CEO Ed Williams said those closures were a result of rising labor costs, staff shortages and the pandemic.
Before this summer, the decades old company hadn’t closed a location since late 2016 when the fitness center at 1630 Welton St. shuttered.
After the Boulder closure, Colorado Athletic Club will have four Colorado locations, including the Tabor Center downtown and in the DTC. Wellbridge also operates six fitness centers in Maryland and New Mexico under different names.
