Dozens is cracking into a new space.
After a kitchen fire severely damaged the 25-year-old breakfast-and-lunch restaurant’s building at 236 W. 13th Ave. last year, the eatery is moving about four blocks north.
Owner John England said Dozens will reopen at 323 14th St., likely in six months or so.
“We were so happy to secure a space so close to our original location,” England said in an email to BusinessDen. “The new place should have a similar charm and be a little larger than the old space.”
He said the restaurant, whose website proclaims “We respect the egg,” will have a patio and about 20 more seats.
In a company Facebook post, England said it would have taken over a year to rebuild in the original location and the property owner was underinsured. The 1,636-square-foot building on 13th is owned by McDougal & Co., which didn’t respond to requests for comment. McDougal also owns Crepes N Crepes’ former building in Cherry Creek.
The Denver Fire Department was unable to determine the specific cause of the fire, beyond that it was accidental. A department spokesperson told BusinessDen it caused severe damage to the kitchen and second floor.
Dozens’ new space was formerly home to the cocktail bar The Greedy Hamster, which England said didn’t survive the pandemic. Before that, Belvedere and Cafe Berlin operated there.
