Chase Bank will close its branch at 16th Street and Wynkoop near Union Station.
The banking giant told federal regulators late last week that it plans to shutter the location. A Chase spokeswoman said that closure is expected to occur Aug. 3.
“We have a branch in very close proximity in the downtown market through which we’re able to serve more customers,” said the spokeswoman, Maura Cordova.
“We continue to open branches where it makes sense, including in high-growth areas where new homes are being added or in neighborhoods that lack access to traditional bank branches,” she said. “Sometimes, we relocate a branch to a new site due to low foot traffic, branch overlap, or as many customers turn to digital channels to do their everyday banking.”
Chase’s location at 1760 16th St. is a full-service branch with two ATMs, according to the company. There is another branch five blocks east at 17th and Blake.
So far this year, Chase has closed locations in Golden and Boulder and opened or announced plans to open branches in Parker, Lafayette and Telluride, federal records show.
The office building at 1760 16th St. is owned by Saban Capital Group, a private investment firm in Los Angeles. It also houses a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regional office and the headquarters of Advanced Energy, a multinational tech company.
Chase was the second-largest banking chain in the Denver area by deposits last year. It took in $19 billion, or 14.9 percent of bank deposits, between mid-2021 and mid-2022, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data released last September.
