Colorado-style pizza is returning to Denver.
Beau Jo’s, the pizzeria known for hand-rolled crust served with honey, is opening a Denver location at 2100 S. University Blvd., across the street from the University of Denver campus.
“We really like that it’s across from DU and all the opportunities that location can provide,” Beau Jo’s Marketing Director Codi Bair said. “But it was just kind of a happy coincidence.”
Beau Jo’s, founded in Idaho Springs by Chip Bair, has six locations around the state, including as far as Fort Collins and Steamboat Springs. But it hasn’t had a presence in the Mile High City since 2017, when it closed at 2710 S. Colorado Blvd.
“We have been wanting to get back into the Denver area since we lost our other location,” Bair said.
Bair said the company chose the space, which is on the ground floor of an apartment complex, because it was already set up for a restaurant and has parking in the complex. NAI Shames Makovsky broker Cory Dulberg represented the landlord in the 4,000-square-foot deal.
Bair said the restaurant will be open in the summer or early fall. Beau Jo’s also has locations in Idaho Springs, Arvada, Evergreen, Fort Collins, Lone Tree and Steamboat Springs, with 252 employees in total.
“Having that Colorado feel – outdoorsy, a big mountain pie for a big appetite – we’re the only place that has pizza like that,” said Beau Jo’s Marketing Director Codi Bair.
The company is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and founder Chip Bair recently announced the business is giving majority of its ownership to its employees.
“He’s a very generous and giving person and he’s always wanted to give back to the employees,” Bair said of her father. “He realizes the employees are the biggest asset to the business so this is his way to help them out and say thank you.”
