Mike Johnston topped the Denver mayoral candidate field in January fundraising.
The former Colorado state senator and nonprofit CEO raised nearly $129,000 last month, outpacing the closest competitor — former Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce CEO Kelly Brough — by about $38,000.
And the candidate who raised the third-most last month was a late entrant to the race: Kwame Spearman, currently on leave from his role as CEO of Tattered Cover.
The above figures do not include contributions from the city’s new “Fair Elections Fund,” which provides public matching funds to participating campaigns, because the issuance of those funds is delayed. Johnston, for example, said in a Tuesday news release that his campaign expects to get at least $140,000 in matching funds in connection with the January contributions.
The municipal election is April 4. If no candidate gets greater than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters will compete in a June 6 runoff election. Campaigns were required to disclose January fundraising by Monday.
There will be 17 candidates on the April ballot. Below are the seven candidates who raised at least $10,000 last month, not counting personal loans or expected matching funds. Some figures have been rounded.
