Donald and Karen Ringsby knew what they wanted when they asked their son Gray to design their Denver home.
For the mansion built in 1995, they wanted something romantic that reflected a bygone era with a Tuscan villa flair.
They started with a door they found at an antique shop.
“I designed the entry around it, creating a stone archway,” says Gray Ringsby, a Maui realtor and University of Colorado graduate with a degree in architecture.
The home’s open staircase has a custom railing crafted by an artistic welder using vines to illustrate a connection to wine-growing regions in Italy and Europe. The interior features Colorado flagstone floors and colonnades.
“When you walk in, it feels like it’s an old, historic house,” Gray says.
Located at 1687 E. Cedar Ave. in Denver, the three-story, 6,000-square-foot home has three bedrooms, four baths and an elevator.
The house shares a pool with five neighborhood homes.
“It’s the ultimate empty-nester home,” says Alex Ringsby, founder of Ringsby Realty. “My parents loved this house.”
The Colorado flagstone balcony offers city views.
Donald’s father, J.W. “Bill” Ringsby, founded Denver-based Ringsby Truck Lines and later purchased Aspen Airways. The family, which sold the truck line in 1984 and the airline in 1990, also owned the Denver Rockets, the city’s first professional basketball team, from 1967 to 1974.
After Donald died in 2020, the house became too big for Karen. So, in October, sons Gray, Alex and Eric listed the mansion with Robin Wood of Robin Wood Realty for $4.1 million.
The brothers reduced the price to $3.75 million on Dec. 14.
