Tide Cleaners is washing out the local competition.
The dry-cleaning arm of Tide has acquired local business Impressive Cleaners and plans to rebrand the business’ three locations as Tide Cleaners.
“Impressive Cleaners really just fit our game plan of growth in a different market,” said local Tide Cleaners franchisee Brandt Stravlo. “They have a store located out south, where we don’t have any brand recognition.”
Stravlo acquired Impressive Cleaners locations in November last year for an undisclosed amount. They’re at 3571 S. Tower Road in Aurora, 9200 E. Hampden Ave. in Denver, and 8008 E. Arapahoe Road in Centennial.
He is currently in the process of remodeling them and plans to reopen them at the end of August under the Tide Cleaners brand.
Stravlo opened Tide Cleaners’ first three Denver locations in 2019 in Cherry Creek, The Coloradan downtown, and in the Highlands. In addition to the Impressive Cleaners locations, he’s opening two more in Thornton and Littleton.
The state franchisee said he hopes to open 20-plus stores in the next three years.
Stravlo previously worked in the dry cleaning industry in Texas but moved to Denver in 2019 to pursue his franchisee role.
“The Tide name is very powerful, and we thought that it meant a lot to people since it’s a household name, and we had never seen the technology they were bringing to the industry before,” Stravlo said.
Tide launched the dry-cleaning arm of its business in Kansas in 2008. It now has 188 stores in 25 markets and is opening its first laundromat in Chicago.
“Dry cleaning has been hit hard throughout COVID,” said Tide Cleaners CEO Andrew Gibson. “The numbers we see from an industry standpoint are that almost 30 percent of dry cleaners have closed over the last two years. What we’re proud of is, despite that happening, Tide Cleaners has opened 77 new locations since 2019. Over that same three-year period, we have taken over the No. 1 brand status nationally from Martinizing.”
