A Whole Foods-owned coffee shop has closed its Tennyson location for good.
Allegro Coffee Roasters served up its final latte at 4040 Tennyson St. in the Berkeley neighborhood last week. The 4,000-square-foot shop opened in 2015.
Allegro has another roastery and cafe in Thornton, which will continue operating as usual, according to a Whole Foods spokesperson.
“Whole Foods Market and Allegro remain committed to providing our customers with the very best responsibly sourced coffee in the industry,” the spokesperson said in an email. “These changes impact a very small number of team members, and we are dedicated to helping those who are qualified find new roles with Allegro or Whole Foods Market.”
Allegro was purchased by Whole Foods in 1997.
The Tennyson space is owned by the Denver-based real estate firm Robert L. Naiman Co. Nikki Naiman told BusinessDen that Allegro still has two years left on its lease.
Allegro was started by Jeffrey Cohn in Boulder in 1977. Twenty years later, he sold the business to Whole Foods.
Allegro is more than just a few coffee shops. The company produces the coffee sold under Whole Foods’ 365 label. The grocer has also had some Allegro kiosks in its stores.
