And a broker for the owner of the former Truffle Cheese Shop space told BusinessDen the group recently leased the 660 square feet in Cherry Creek.
Caleb Benton, who co-owns Riot BBQ along with “Top Chef” alum Manny Barella and Riot pitmaster Patrick Klaiber, declined to comment.
Plans submitted to Denver call for a restaurant named Chicken Riot featuring a 300-square-foot “take-out area” with a 360-square-foot kitchen behind it. A menu submitted to the city says the outpost will serve a smoked half chicken pibil, a smoked half chicken loco, a chicken salad sandwich, a chicken wrap and a couple of salads.
That food will be cooked off-site and stored in “warming ovens,” Chicken Riot told the city. The spot said it will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Ownership is still working to secure permits, city records show.
As for Truffle Cheese Shop, owner Lisa Morris said in a recent Instagram post that her shop is still fulfilling online orders while searching for its next retail location. The Sixth Avenue store was seized by the state in September for $21,000 in back taxes.
