From eggs and hash to checks and cash.
Canvas Credit Union will open at 2345 E. Evans Ave., the former home of Pete’s University Park Café, according to permits filed with the City of Denver.
The Lone Tree-based institution will move its existing branch at 2027 S. University Blvd., just a few doors down, into the 2,225-square-foot building.

Pete’s served its final souvlaki skillets earlier this month at the spot it called home for three decades. Members of the Contos family, whose patriarch Pete died in 2019, told Westword in September that the closure would help keep Pete’s other local restaurants afloat during a tough time for business.
Those spots include Pete’s Kitchen, Pete’s Central One and Pete’s Satire Lounge. Alex Barakos, Pete’s grandson who manages restaurant operations, told BusinessDen in August that sales at Colfax staple Pete’s Kitchen were down 12% amid construction of the bus rapid transit line along the street.
The family still owns the Pete’s Café building. It is unclear whether they are leasing or selling it to Canvas.
The credit union did not respond to requests for comment. Neither did Barakos.
This isn’t the first time a financial institution has replaced a longtime diner. In 2023, Chase Bank opened up at the former Denver Diner site at Colfax and Speer.
