After 45 years, the business law firm Burns, Figa & Will will dissolve at the end of the week.
“It’s a mix of feelings,” says Scott Clark, an environmental lawyer and the firm’s CEO.
Burns, Figa & Will’s attorneys will go in different directions. Six are joining the Denver office of Clark Hill, an international firm. Five have left to start the Cherry Creek office of Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod Waterfall, a regional firm. One is joining Childs McCune Michalek.
“I’m saddened and disappointed to see the end of Burns, Figa & Will,” Clark said during a phone interview Friday. “I think we’ve done a great job of building a reputation for putting out a really high-quality product while also being good attorneys to work with. So, I’m disappointed to see the firm end but, at the same time, I am also very excited about what’s ahead.”
Clark’s firm is one of two significant business law firms closing this week as the legal industry continues to consolidate. Allen Vellone Wolf Helfrich & Factor’s final day in business will be Wednesday.

Clark said he and his coworkers began thinking about the firm’s future in January.
“As we continued through the process and talked with other law firms, it became more and more apparent that the end result was going to be people leaving, going different directions, and ultimately the firm winding down,” recalled Clark, who has spent 25 years there.
“I am extremely grateful for all of the great people that have worked here: our attorneys, our staff. It has been a wonderful ride for 25 years and 45 years for the firm as a whole.”
Joining Clark at Clark Hill are Victoria Bantz, Theresa Mehringer, Andrea Welter, Kemper Will and Tyler Alberts. That firm now has 17 lawyers in Denver and six based in Boulder.
Attorneys joining Jennings Haug are Michael “Mickey” Ley, Adrienne Scheffey, Dennis Bartlett, Dana Eismeier and Herrick Lidstone. The Denver office of Jennings Haug opened Sept. 15 at 3300 E. First Ave. in Cherry Creek, where it leases about 3,000 square feet.
