A purveyor of olive oils and balsamic vinegars has closed its original store in LoDo after 15 years.
EVOO Marketplace closed at 1338 15th St. on Nov. 17, according to the company’s website.
EVOO was founded in 2008 by Mick and Carolyn Major, who moved from Wisconsin to open the store near Larimer Square, according to the website. Their son opened the company’s second store in Littleton in 2011, and a location in Aspen was added in 2012.
The Littleton and Aspen locations remain open.
Attempts to reach the owners for comment on Tuesday were unsuccessful. Neither the company’s website nor a sign posted at the LoDo store detail the reason for the closure.
The brick building on the corner of 15th and Market has been owned since 2012 by Boulder’s Jon Kogut, who paid $565,000 for it, according to public records.
Kogut said EVOO’s lease ends this month and the retailer opted not to renew. He said the business has faced problems getting inventory and cut back on hours at the LoDo store in recent months.
“With all the office closures in downtown, there just isn’t the foot traffic there used to be,” Kogut said.
Kogut has hired Pinnacle Real Estate to market the building for sale or lease, but he’d prefer to lease it, ideally to something like a boutique or jewelry store.
“I would like to get a good tenant, preferably not a bar,” he said. “There are enough bars there already.”
The 2,100-square-foot brick building dates to the 1860s, and features gothic elements such as large arched windows. Wells Fargo originally used it. Prior to EVOO, it housed a bike shop and kayak shop, according to a LoopNet listing.
Kogut previously owned the neighboring building at 1320 15th St. but sold that last year to Charlotte-based Asana Partners, which owns Larimer Square.
