Sola Salons is doubling down on Cherry Creek.
The Denver-born beauty salon chain that rents suites to individual stylists plans to open a second location in the neighborhood, a block away from its first.
“They’ll be sister locations, side by side,” Sola Salons CEO Christina Russell said. “All of those hair stylists and their customers have that ability to build a day around their beauty services and we love that.”
Russell praised Cherry Creek as Denver’s “shopping and dining and entertainment center.”
Sola Salons was founded in Denver nearly 20 years ago by Stratton Smith and Matt Briger. The third-ever location opened at 299 Detroit St. in 2005. The new location will be at 2700 E. 2nd Ave., within Clayton Lane.
The new 9,300-square-foot space will have 41 individual studios, compared to 46 at the Detroit Street spot. Hair stylists are the majority of Sola’s professionals, but Russell said the company recently expanded to include other beauty services like massages, eyebrow waxing and nail artists.
“Think of it almost like an artist co-op … these are beauty artists so you can go and get all sorts of services done under one roof,” Russell said.
The model gives stylists control of their own real estate and schedules, and allows them to make about one-third more than in a traditional salon setting, Russell said. The new suites lease for $375 a week, and the salon is expected to open late this year.
Sola has 655 locations, the majority of which are franchises. Both of the Cherry Creek salons, however, are corporate-owned.
“What Sola did, and did well, was set up a service play that was founded around real estate … helping stylists or beauty professionals to elevate their careers and experience the freedom of independent beauty ownership,” Russell said.
Colliers broker Jay Landt represents Sola in its leases nationwide. Lisa Snead with Kin Commercial Real Estate represented the landlord in the deal.
A portion of Clayton Lane, most notably its former Sears store, is poised to be redeveloped in the coming years by Invesco, BMC Investments and Prism Places.
