The Cap Hill neighborhood will gain another grocery store on Oct. 7.
That’s the opening date for the Ideal Market at 900 E. 11th Ave., according to the website for Whole Foods, which owns the brand.
The store previously operated under the Whole Foods moniker. But the Austin-based company closed it in November 2017, around the time it opened its store by Union Station.
Whole Foods’ lease for the space runs for another decade, the landlord has previously said. After closing in 2017, the store sat empty for months, before renovations to the building began in 2019.
Whole Foods didn’t respond to a request for comment for this story, and hasn’t explained why the store is reopening under a different brand. Ideal Market is the name of a grocery store at 1275 Alpine Ave. in Boulder. Whole Foods has owned that store since 2007, when the company purchased the Wild Oats Market chain.
Cap Hill also has a King Soopers, a Trader Joe’s and a Safeway within or at the edge of its boundaries.
