Johnson & Wales University’s Denver campus is hitting the market, and CBRE has nabbed the listing.
The brokerage said Monday that the approximately 25-acre campus at 7150 E. Montview Blvd. will be marketed by Eric Roth, Martin Roth and Karlen Beitman of the firm’s Denver office, along with Nina Farrell, a higher education specialist in the firm’s Austin office.
Marketing efforts are slated to begin in early September. There is no set list price.
“JWU is looking to find a buyer who will implement the highest and best use of the property so both the university and the community will benefit,” Beitman said in a statement.
Providence, Rhode Island-based Johnson & Wales announced in June that it will close its campuses in Denver and North Miami, Florida, in the summer of 2021. The move will leave the institution with two campuses, in Providence and Charlotte.
The Denver campus is in the South Park Hill neighborhood and has approximately 13 buildings. Prior to Johnson & Wales — which welcomed its first Denver class in 2000 — the campus was home to the Colorado Women’s College and the University of Denver Law School.
Among the buildings is Centennial Hall, which was built in 1886 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Johnson & Wales paid about $30.5 million for the campus, although it didn’t buy it all at once. It purchased the eastern half — the 1985 N. Quebec St. parcel — for $8.46 million in August 1999, according to public records. Two parcels that make up the campus’ western half were added in July 2003 for $22.17 million.
CBRE’s Roth brothers also marketed the last college campus to hit the market in Denver. The Loretto Heights/Colorado Heights campus along Federal Boulevard sold to Glendale-based developer Westside Investment Partners in 2018 for $16.5 million.
