Knew Conscious is moving back home.

In January, the art gallery and members-only social club is moving to 2350 Lawrence St. in RiNo.

“We feel like we’re back to where we began in RiNo,” said founder Kurt Redeker.

Redeker began Knew Conscious in 2010 at 2700 Walnut St. in RiNo as a showcase for his own art. He later added other artists’ work. The former graphic designer describes his work as “multi-medium” — he creates backlit, digital artwork, which he then frames in light boxes.

Redeker added members-only events to the business model in 2016 to “get more eyes on the art.” In May 2017, Knew Conscious moved to 2041 Lawrence St. in Ballpark, but it closed there in June 2018 in part, Redeker said, because the building didn’t have the zoning needed for events. The business planned to open a space in June 2019 in Golden Triangle but there was a breach in contract, Redeker said.

Knew Conscious had approximately 3,300 active members when temporarily closing in June 2018.
Half of the new 7,000-square-foot building at 2350 Lawrence St., which was previously a Denver fire station, will be used as an art gallery and the other half will be used as an event venue. Knew Conscious will open here on Jan. 18 with a show open to the public. The show will feature work from local and international artists, including Anna Charney, David Cooley, Irene Lopez Leon and others from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The renovation was handled by Denver-based Behm Construction. The public art gallery will showcase 10 to 12 exhibitions each year from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The members-only social club will be open Fridays and Saturdays.

In addition to the new space, Redeker is bringing on his cousin Leah Hagemann as the company’s chief financial officer. Hagemann raised $250,000 in venture capital to help open the new location, according to Redeker.

“Once we get this formula down, hopefully we’ll open up another location,” Redeker said in a previous interview with BusinessDen. “We’re looking to open multiple locations in other cities.”

Redeker said he hopes to open locations in Los Angeles and New York in the next three years.
