The parks and recreation department covering a northern portion of the Denver metro area has taken over a private athletic club in Westminster.
Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District, which covers a 25-square-mile portion of Adams County, purchased Tru Fit’s location at 2861 W. 120th Ave. in Westminster on Feb. 28, according to district spokeswoman Joann Cortez.
Cortez said the purchase price was approximately $6 million. Hyland Hills has renamed the 39,446-square-foot facility FIT by Hyland Hills.
The gym’s amenities include fitness equipment, rock climbing wall, a child care center, tanning, saunas, steam rooms and massage services. Hyland Hills is planning minor renovations of the building, including replacing carpet and updating signs.
“We didn’t have something like this in our district in our repertoire of our facilities,” Cortez said. “We have this whole bevy of facilities and we felt like this would really round out what we offer our residents.”
Hyland Hills’ other facilities include Water World, the Ice Centre at the Promenade and the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills.
In December, Tru Fit, which deferred comment on the transaction to Hyland Hills, closed its gym at 6815 W. 88th Ave. in Westminster. Tru Fit’s landlord there sued the company, alleging the gym owed $123,000 in rent.
When the gym closed, Tru Fit transferred the location’s members to the 120th Avenue location, the one that just sold to Hyland Hills.
Tru Fit has four other locations in Colorado: downtown, Cherry Creek, the Southlands and Fort Collins.
