The roosters will crow for the last time this winter at Lakewood’s famed fried chicken venue.
White Fence Farm, a restaurant and tourist attraction that includes a petting zoo, gift shop and stage, will close at 6263 W. Jewell Ave. on Dec. 30 — after operating for 45 years.
Westword first reported the restaurant’s closure. Owner Craig Caldwell, who purchased the business with Tom Piercy four years ago, told the alt-weekly the business has “been operating at a net monthly loss for a considerable amount of time,” and has struggled to find qualified staff members.
The closing of the flagship location follows the shuttering this year of White Fence’s short-lived carry-out locations elsewhere in the Denver area, in Capitol Hill, Arvada, Westminster, Green Valley Ranch and on South Colorado Boulevard.
Caldwell and Piercy purchased White Fence Farm from founder Charlie Wilson in 2014, paying $3.75 million for the 7.4-acre property on Jewell Avenue between Wadsworth and Sheridan Boulevards, according to county records.
