Players Clothing, a casual menswear shop and long-time staple on Wazee Street in LoDo, will close after a 17-year run. Owners Scott Peterson and Jim Harder plan to retire in early 2019.
The space is being marketed for rent.
Since opening in 2001, Players has occupied prime downtown real estate at 1501 Wazee St. Peterson described their clothing as “Denver lifestyle” sportswear and menswear, targeting 30-to-65-year-old customers with mid-to-high income.
Harder, 71, and Peterson, 68, purchased the property for $600,000 in 2001.
They are the business’s only employees and handle everything from sales to administration.
“It’s a lot of work,” Peterson said.
Players isn’t closing because business has been slow. Peterson said sales are up 10 percent from this time last year.
“It’s been a long time, and we want to see what else is out there,” Peterson said. “I just want to relax and figure out what I want to do.”
