The Cherry Creek School District last week bought land near the Bronco’s practice facility for a new vocational high school.
The district bought 42 acres near the Centennial Airport owned by Dove Valley Business Park Associates for $5.8 million on Thursday.
“We are one of the districts that are still growing,” spokeswoman Abby Smith said.
The land will house the new Career and Innovation Academy, a technical school open to 11th and 12th graders with class offerings and apprenticeships in auto, construction, health, hospitality, manufacturing, energy, aviation, aerospace and computer science. The district is working with Colorado Workforce Development Council on the school.
DLR Group in Denver will be the architect for the vocational school.
The land totals five parcels between East Broncos Parkway and South Chambers Road. Other tenants in the neighborhood include the Broncos Training Facility and, more recently, Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co.
Jerry Kempf of Unique Properties has been selling the 1,000 acres at the park for a decade. There are less than 200 acres left to be sold.
Cherry Creek School District also will start construction on an elementary and middle school this year, on the eastern edge of the district serving Aurora.
The three new school buildings are being funded with $250 million of bonds that were approved by voters last year.
