A former aerospace engineer and pharmacist are tightening the holds and hanging the ropes on Stapleton’s new climbing crag.
After leaving their jobs this year, Jake and Kim Crines are planning to open Ubergrippen Indoor Climbing Crag at 8610 E. 21st Ave. next month. The climbing walls, built by Vertical Solutions, feature 42-foot birch and maple wood with colorful rock-climbing holds.
BusinessDen previously reported on the Crines’ plans for Ubergrippen, including their purchase of the land for $586,000 last March.
Besides the expected bouldering, climbing and fitness equipment at the 20,400-square-foot facility, Ubergrippen isn’t restricted to the indoors: A large boulder for climbing is set up outside on what will be a grass lawn, where Jake Crines said he will set up slacklines for climbers to test their balance.
Memberships costs $80 for adults, $140 for families of two and $30 for each additional family member under 18.
Crines is shooting for a June 3 members-only opening, a June 17 public opening and a July 8 grand-opening party, with food trucks, vendors and professional athletes.
