Yael Japha Trainer opened the door to her first fitness studio, TerraFly Pilates, two weeks ago, and she thinks offering classes for kids will give it an edge in the competitive world of Denver fitness.
The Pilates studio space at 11 E. Fourth Ave. is set up for small classes at 1,000 square feet. And Trainer said she took special training to offer Pilates to kids eight and older.
Trainer was previously a professional dancer at Denver’s Louder Than Words Dancetheatre. She also taught dance at Colorado Ballet. When her professional dance career ended three years ago, she stepped into Pilates instruction.
“(Pilates) complemented my dancing,” Trainer said. “It is a lot about movement and moving your body through space, whether it was over a dance floor or with equipment. We used it as a training mechanism.”
Trainer said she is offering eight types of adult classes. She is the only trainer, but said she will employ more as business picks up.
“The small classes allow me to give individual attention no matter what your level, although what I’ve been finding is that people have been signing up in groups who know each other,” Trainer said.
Trainer also aims to run a small retail business in the studio; and she’s stocking designs from Denver-based Peach and Pepper Apparel.
