With no interest in renting real estate, one of Colorado’s biggest banks is supersizing its home base.
FirstBank is adding 127,000 square feet to its Jefferson County headquarters at 12345 W. Colfax Ave. The expansion will bring about 250 employees back to the bank’s main campus and out of 37,000 square feet FirstBank currently leases at three locations around Lakewood, Vice President Adam Snyder said.
“We continue to add employees every year, and we had expanded into additional leased spaces around the area,” Snyder said. “So part of it was to bring our employees back into one building and accommodate additional growth.”
The eight-figure project includes a new parking deck that opened in December and the 127,000-square-foot headquarters addition. That building broke ground in January, and Snyder said the plan is to have it finished by June 2016.
FirstBank’s headquarters already has about 100,000 square feet of interior space. The existing building was built in 1995, Jefferson County records show. RNL designed the FirstBank expansion, and Hyder Construction is the general contractor. FirstBank provided its own construction loan.
When the addition is completed, Snyder expects FirstBank will have about 900 employees working out of the headquarters with plans to add another 70 or so in the next year. At capacity, the new headquarters will give FirstBank room to grow to about 1,300 employees.
“We expect this building to be about a 10-year building for us,” Snyder said.
FirstBank, founded in 1963, has $14 billion in assets and more than 115 locations between Colorado, Arizona and California, according to the bank’s website.
