Oil and gas service company Baker Hughes is laying off 124 workers based at the company’s Brighton facility.
Houston-based Baker Hughes – which also has a downtown office on 17th Street – notified the state on Aug. 12 via a WARN notice that it was cutting the jobs due to lack of work. The employees will be paid for 60 days and keep their benefits for three months, according to the filing.
“Throughout 2015, we have lowered spending across the business, closed or consolidated facilities and made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce,” spokeswoman Melanie Kania wrote in an emailed statement. “We’ve made efforts to minimize reductions through alternative cost-cutting measures when possible, and all impacted employees will be eligible for severance benefits.”
Eighty of the laid-off employees are field operators who work on wells, according to the filing.
