Denver is soon going to have two Black Eyes.
Black Eye Coffee Shop will open its second location at 820 Sherman St. in Cap Hill this summer. The 3,000-square-foot shop will be the second Black Eye location after the first opened in the Lower Highlands three years ago.

“It’s a beefed-up version of what we’re doing now. It’s like our current shop on steroids,” co-owner Ali Elman said. “We’re also offering an all-day food menu and cocktails at this location.”
The new Black Eye is about a third bigger than the coffee shop’s 1,800-square-foot Highlands location. The new location will be in the upcoming MOTO development at Sherman Street and Eighth Avenue.
And Elman will license 700 square feet of the new store to Proper Barber Shop – located on Tennyson Street – barber shop and will be able to serve alcohol to Proper’s clients.
The coffee shop will open at 6 a.m. and won’t close until past midnight, Elman said. That’s six hours longer than the Navajo Street shop.
Elman said that Black Eye Coffee signed a long-term lease on the store.
And instead of hiring contractors, Black Eye employees are strapping on tool belts to handle the renovation.
“We’re managing it and physically doing it ourselves,” Elman said. “We’ve designed the entire space ourselves. It’s been quite the undertaking, but we’ve also had plans for this for two years.”
