Energy law firms unite

A small energy law firm is taking its regulatory expertise over to a Houston-based firm 10 blocks away.

Denver energy lawyer Jamie Jost, a partner with Jost & Shelton Energy Group, is merging her eight-lawyer firm into Houston-based Burleson.

“They don’t have a regulatory group here,” Jost said. “We’re bringing that regulatory practice and expanding the title practice.”

Jost said the two firms already share some clients, including Bonanza Creek Energy and ConocoPhillips.

Jost, a graduate of the University of Wyoming College of Law who at one time worked for Beatty & Wozniak and Davis, Graham & Stubbs, has practiced in oil and gas since 2002.

“I’ve done everything from exploration to get it out of the ground and to the burner so people have heat in their home,” she said.

Five of Jost & Shelton’s lawyers handle title work, Jost said, which involves allocating oil and gas payments.

Jost & Shelton will look to sublease its furnished office at 1675 Larimer St., Jost said. Burleson’s Denver office is based out of the Wells Fargo Center at 1700 Lincoln St., according to its website.

BusinessDen was unable to reach anyone at Burleson for comment.
